The shorter days of fall and winter mean riding home after work in the dark. When I lived in the fan area simple LED light like a Knog Toad was perfect. However, at the beginning of October I moved to Lakeside in Henrico County. Even though I am barley outside the city limits the lack of street lights is noticable. It only took one ride home to put me onto the task of finding a new headlight.
The MiNewt Mini-USB from NiteRider has been the perfect light.

The MiNewt uses a super bright LED that puts out about the same amount of light as a 15 watt halogen bulb in a much more compact unit. The battery and light are incredibly light weight, so light in fact that the battery actually straps to the handlebar stem on my bike (but it would easily disappear into a jersey pocket as well). Three hours of continuous running mean that I don’t have to remember to charge it after every ride home. If you are looking to ride off road a night one of the slightly more powerful units from NiteRider might be a better choice, but if you are commuting like me the MiNewt Mini-USB is perfect.
On December 13th we will discount all 2008 TIME bicycles in stock to our cost.
Short of going pro, you will never get a deal like this again. Anywhere.
These bikes have won ALL the biggest races in the world. Come by and take a look at what we have before the 13th.

Anyone who knows me will tell you I love the park system here in VA. I recently visited Staunton River State Park on the VA-NC border. The park is situated on the point where the Dan and Staunton River join to create Buggs Island Lake. The weather was cool and the fireplace was going all weekend. The large deck overlooking the water was a great place for having morning coffee.

The park has a seven mile multi-use trail that runs along the river bank and through the woods. It's not a technical trail and my Surly Long Haul Trucker handled it supurbly.

This is one of the most versatile and fun bikes I have ever had. I use it for commuting, running errands and light trail riding.
It's too early to feel like winter!
While out riding yesterday afternoon I found myself slightly under dressed, which is strange for me since I am a chronic over dresser.
I warmed up pretty fast in my Craft base layer and Giordana arm warmers.
I feel that it is very important to keep your core warm. It will help with regulating body temperature which also helps blood flow and keeping your other extremities warm as well.
I just got a new pair of Louis Garneau gloves which my small hands are extremely happy with!
Chris King is one of the coolest American component companies. They are mostly known for their boutique headsets and hubs, but now they have a bottom bracket as well.

We have them in stock now and I can't wait to get a green one for myself.
Vittoria Pit Stop is the best product ever made. When you flat all you have to do is shove this tiny canister onto your tube, wait a few minutes and you are ready to roll. That's it.

I have no idea how that can work, but it does, well.
Any good fit will include a Spin Scan. It's a feature on a Computrainer that shows how efficient your pedal stroke is and how much wattage you generate with each leg. The first time I used it my numbers were very good, which was depressing since I hoped to be able to rid myself of my mediocrity by employing a trick to gain efficiency rather than more training.

It is interesting to see how small adjustments affect the pedal stroke, and I still get on there every few months to see if anything is haywire.
If you want to see how your pedal stroke compares, book some time on our fit-cycle with Spinscan.
Are BPA's, present in plastic water bottles and are they dangerous?
Smarter people than me have a hard time agreeing on it, but not taking the chance is easy. The Camelback Podium Bottle, costs 4 dollars more than other bottles but comes without BPA's. They also don't slowly disintegrate in the dishwasher, so they last longer. You'll recoup the 4 dollars, and forgo the BPA's.
